Motoring Mistakes And How Not To Let The Hinder The Future

When it comes to your motoring behaviour, we can all be a little erratic at times. There will be stages that this can be most evident. When you first pass your test, for example, you can feel a surge of Adrenalin thanks to this new found freedom driving a car has given you. Suddenly destinations don’t seem so far, your lifestyle changes and things get easier. Then there is the stage where you buy your ultimate dream car, perhaps a sports car or something a little special. We can all be guilty of showing off and acting against our better judgement in terms of speed. Basically we can all make motoring mistakes throughout the course of our driving history, but it is how we handle those and not let them hinder our future that makes the biggest difference. An accident that wasn’t your fault

One of the most common situations to find yourself in when it comes to motoring is being involved in an accident that wasn’t your fault. It can happen when you least expect it to. You can be driving a long, with no care in the world, and then all of a sudden someone isn’t concentrating or is driving faster than they should be an accident happens. You may be injured, you may have just come away with a few minor niggles, but it can affect you massively. This is when you will need a personal injury lawyer on your side. They can fight for compensation, to do with losing out on working and any other costs you may have incurred. It might not be something you want to go through, but it is better to make a positive out of a bad situation.

An accident that was your fault

While accidents happen when you least expect it, you can also be the one at fault. It can happen within a split second. One minute your driving, you take your eyes off the road for a second, and then bang, you’ve hit another driver. We can all get distracted from time to time, and while there is no excuse for causing an accident, it can happen more often than we would like to admit. This is when you may want to try and eliminate distractions while on the road. Switch your phone off, don’t have the radio too loud, and generally ensure you are fit and well to drive.

Speeding when you shouldn’t have been

The next thing that may happen that can cause issues within your motoring life is speeding. There are two ways that this can happen. Sometimes road speed limits are changed for one reason or another. It could be that roadworks are taking place so that it is reduced, or perhaps it is a reduced because of accidents up ahead, which happens on motorways quite a bit. Or it could be that you are not concentrating on the speed you are travelling, perhaps keeping up with the car in front and end up speeding that way. It tends to result in a fine and even points on your license, so it isn’t worth it to do it if you can help it.

Simple mistakes

We can all make simple mistakes when it comes to our cars. Parking it up only to bump a car in front or behind. Curbing your wheels because you are getting too close to the curb. Causing damage through dents and scratches. It happens, and it part and parcel of vehicle ownership. The best advice would be to fix any damage sooner rather than later before it turns into a bigger issue with rust.

Not checking your engine oil and water levels

Everyone can be guilty of not checking under the bonnet as often as they should do. There are two things that as an owner you can check without it needing to go into the garage. The engine oil and water levels. It is very important to do this before you embark on a long journey, but trying to make it a periodic check would be advisable so that these levels can be topped up when necessary.

Making sure you stay up to date with manufacture recommendations

Finally, it is always a good idea to stick with manufacturer guidelines when it comes to servicing. This is because that failing to do so could invalidate any warranty that you have should something major breakdown and need fixing.

Let’s hope that these tips help you to stay on track with your motor.
