Road Test: 2018 Infiniti QX30

It’s hard to ignore Infiniti’s stylish design language on the Q50, Q60, and QX80. Thankfully, the equally stunning and compact 2018 QX30 is within easier reach thanks to a starting price under $30,000.

The QX30’s exterior is characterized by sculpted curves and lines, with signature LED lighting in the front and rear. At night, the illumination is beautiful and spreads down the road incredibly well, with high-beam assist contributing to even better illumination when possible.

Our QX30 Premium AWD tester had Infiniti’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) that distributes power appropriately to all four wheels. The unique front and rear lower fascias, extended overfenders, unique black mold-in color side sills, roof rails, 18-inch machine finished, aluminum-alloy wheels and higher ride height are all special aspects of the Premium trim level.

The overall look is one of beauty and uniqueness, something that is missing from many vehicles these days.

Under the hood, QX30’s powertrain delivers a confidence-inspiring driving experience. The standard 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is rated at 208 horsepower and mates to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters. Although we like using the paddle shifters on winding roads, the QX30 does a great job in fully automatic mode. The chassis and steering are on the firmer side but still comforable.

Inside, the QX30 asymmetrical dash is unique and equally as stunning as the exterior. The seats are supportive and comfortable, especially with the Gallery White Nappa leather covering the seats and dash. The two-tone interior is really something else and we just love being inside this car.

Rear seat legroom is good for two adults, but three may be a squeeze. Cargo room is very good with a versatile cargo area.

A panoramic moonroof with power sunshade makes the interior feel so open, and ambient lighting at night surrounds passengers with warm light.

The Bose 10-speaker audio system and InTouch infotainment system are awesome, while the Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection and Intelligent Cruise Control work perfectly. The adaptive cruise did a great job in heavy traffic.
