Designated Driver At The Party

If you can’t sleep it off or get an Uber back home, you know that you are likely to drive. There is always a person in every friends’ group that stays off the drinks for a variety of reasons. Some don’t enjoy the taste of it. Others are trying to look after their figure and don’t want to drink their calories. And finally, some prefer to have a healthy evening. Regardless of your choices and reasonings, if you are the designated driver among your friends, you need to make sure you can get everybody safely back home at the end of the night.

The designated driver is not just the person who doesn’t drink at the party. You are responsible for your friends’ safety, and you will find yourself stepping in to avoid many issues and conflicts.

You’re the pillar of safety and SOBRIETY

It takes two to tango, and it takes more than one to have a car crash. Indeed, as the designated driver, you need to keep your eyes on the road and your reflexes sharp. Driving in the early hours of the morning after a party means that you are likely to encounter other party-goers on the road. Not every driver is as mindful as you, so be cautious of dangerous behaviors. Indeed, drunk driving causes many accidents, and it takes a lot of attention to avoid intoxicated drivers. Sometimes, it’s best to take it slowly so that people who exhibited reckless behaviors behind the steering wheel can overtake you.

The best driver you can be

When you’re driving home at 2 AM, you experience the roads in a different light. Because there are fewer cars out, you may be tempted to feel more confident. But remember that no driver is perfect. Also drive by the rules, even if the road seems empty. It’s the only way to keep your passengers and yourself safe. Aim always to do your best behind the wheel, even when there is nobody around.

Distraction can be deadly

You may not be the one drinking, but you don’t have to be drunk to cause an accident. Did you know that 9 people are killed each day in a crash that is caused by distraction? When you’re driving your friends home, it’s important to stay focused on the road. Your task is made more difficult by having drunk people in the car. Your friends may not be aware of how much danger their loud singing or animated conversations represent!

Don’t always be the designated driver

Even if you don’t drink, it doesn’t mean you should always be the designated driver. It is a role that comes with a lot of responsibilities. As such, if you want a night off to enjoy the party, it’s essential to make sure someone else can take over and drive. You can have a schedule to pick a new designated driver each time. Otherwise, you can also rely on games to choose the driver for the night.

The designated driver is responsible for the safety of their passengers. You act as a guardian for the night, ensuring that everyone makes it home in one piece. You may also need to intervene to rescue your friends from a hangover on the next day!
