Three Key Issues That Cause Traffic Collisions

Whether you realize it or not, there are different risks that can affect your safety on the road. Sure, you will know that being on the road isn’t always safe, and that things do happen – but you don’t always see just how much of a risk being on the road can be. After all, traffic collisions happen, as you know. But, to become more knowledge on this topic, let’s take a look at three key issues that can cause collisions.

1. Alcohol

As much as we’d like to think that one wouldn’t drive while drinking alcohol or drunk, but it happens. As you can see from the infographic below, it happens. However, the larger percentage of incidents (69%) often involves just a single vehicle. But sadly, 16% of serious injuries in collisions are caused by a drinking driver.

2. Drugs

Secondly, drugs are an issue too – as you may know. Unfortunately, there’s a traffic offence involving drugs every three hours in Canada. And almost 3,000 occurrences in 2015 as a whole – so it’s important now more than ever to be vigilant about drugs use and drivers. It’s also crucial to recognize that smoking cannabis doubles the chance of an accident!

3. Fatigue

Finally, we have tiredness and exhaustion. Here, 20% of collisions involved a fatigued driver and 60% of drivers confess they have driven while tired. So it’s important to stay alert.
