Small Checks To Do Before A Long Journey

It is always amazing to get together with your family in the summer and head off for an adventure. If you are planning to drive off for a long journey this summer, it is important for you to take some time to check the car and make sure it is in the best possible shape for the trip. Today we are going to take a little look and things you need to do to prepare your car for a road trip.

Clean the lights

It is important if you are planning to head off on a journey in the countryside this year, that you check the lights at the front and back of the car to ensure that the bulbs are in good shape and the lights shine bright. You can use a handy headlight restoration kit to clean the lights and this will make a huge difference for you when driving through dark country lanes at night!

Check the pressure

As soon as you set off for a long journey in the car it is important to make sure you have a good grip on the road, and of course, the tyres are the only point of contact your car will have to the road itself, this is why it is super important for you to check the pressure of your tyres before you set off using a pressure gauge and make sure that they are inflated enough for a smooth ride on the road.

Check the tread

As well as checking the pressure in your tyres before a trip this year, you will always want to check the tread to ensure that there is enough to keep a good grip on all forms of terrain. The tyre tread should always be above 1.6mm and you can check this with a measuring tape or a 20p coin. Making sure that the tread is thick enough will ensure that you don’t suffer from aquaplaning and skidding on wet or icy days.

Fill your fluids

It is incredibly important for you to think about filling up your fluids when you want to head off for a journey. There are many different fluids which go into your car such as screenwash to help keep your windscreen clean, antifreeze to ensure the engine doesn’t frost over, and coolant to keep the engine from overheating. All of these things are incredibly important for the car and it is helpful to keep them full before you head off on your trip.

Pack a kit

No one ever wants to get lost on a trip but whenever you head off somewhere new it can be a risk, think about making an emergency kit for the car this year. You can bring some blankets, batteries, torches, chargers, snacks and drinks just in case you are stuck out in the middle of nowhere for a few hours with no signal. This will allow you to at least look for help and stay warm and safe if you need to for a while.
