Chevy and Onstar Providing Real-Time Santa Updates

Santa Claus is coming to town, and starting Dec. 24, kids can find out exactly where he is with a simple push of the blue OnStar button.

Chevrolet and OnStar, in collaboration with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), will provide OnStar members with real-time updates on Santa’s whereabouts, leveraging NORAD’s official Santa location data.

NORAD uses sophisticated systems, such as the North Warning Radar System and geo-synchronous satellites with infrared sensors, to follow Santa on his journey around the globe.

“Each year we receive thousands of Santa Update requests,” said Stacey Unold, director of Contact Center Operations supporting Chevrolet. “It’s a fun way for Chevrolet owners to use technology to connect their families with important information about Santa’s journey and spread holiday cheer.”

In the spirit of the season, Chevrolet and OnStar will also donate $1 to the American Red Cross2 for each Santa Update button push received in the United States. Limitations apply3.

Program Details:

  • Santa Update calls can be made anytime between 6 a.m. EST on Dec. 24 through 5 a.m. EST on Dec. 25.
  • Chevrolet owners with an active OnStar plan can push their blue OnStar button to request a Santa Update and learn Santa’s current location.
  • OnStar advisors use NORAD data to share specific location-based updates on Santa Claus’ annual journey.
  • OnStar is committed to the safety and security of its members. Advisor staffing is adjusted to accommodate increased call volume from Santa Update requests.
