2019 Toyota Prius AWD Coming to LA Auto Show

Toyota just released a teaser of the 2019 Prius being unveiled at the LA Auto Show this month. The release says that winter is near and that the Prius will be ready to perform whether snowy or clear.

We’ve long expected an AWD iteration of the Prius. Many consumers in regions with inclement weather prefer AWD for the added traction benefits it provides. In combination with the aerodynamic profile of the Prius, this very well could be the most efficient AWD hybrid vehicle on the market.

The rear wheels will most likely be powered by a separate electric motor, much like on the Highlander and RAV4 hybrids. The system engages when it detects slippage and will also act as a generator when decelerating.
