2018 Mazda6 New Features, Turbo Engine

Mazda’s design and engineering team has kept busy this year, refining the Mazda6 midsize sedan for 2018. The goal in crafting the updated Mazda6 was to enhance Mazda’s renowned driving performance with a quieter, more comfortable ride. The result is a compelling midsize sedan that can compete with others in its segment often found at much higher prices. The list of features is long, but here are five key points to consider:

1. ELEGANT INTERIOR

In Japan, Sen Wood has been a favorite material for centuries. Often used for fine furniture and musical instruments such as taiko drums, Sen Wood is prized for its texture and durability. By using Sen Wood along with other top-grade materials in a newly designed cabin, Mazda brings another level of traditional Japanese Takumi craftsmanship to the 2018 Mazda6. The redesigned cabin gives the Mazda6 a feeling of “Mature Elegance.”

2. ERGONOMIC SEATING

Mazda believes in enhancing the connection between driver and vehicle wherever possible, creating the distinctive Jinba Ittai–“horse and rider are one”–driving philosophy. Using human-centric design principles, the 2018 Mazda6 features completely redesigned front seats. The new seats are wider, and constructed with a high-density urethane body to absorb vibration and increase physical support for driver and passenger alike. The seats are designed to encourage a natural S-shape in the human spine to help improve comfort and reduce fatigue. The 2018 Mazda6 is available with new front seat ventilation as well as heated front and rear seats.

3. TURBOCHARGED ENGINE

Mazda added the award-winning SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine as a new option. This direct-injected four-cylinder engine makes horsepower and torque comparable to a 4.0-liter V8, offering an effortless performance feel that is equal parts composure and excitement. The turbocharged SKYACTIV engine is rated to deliver up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. With this powertrain, the 2018 Mazda6 will now challenge the top European brands on performance as well as with its handling dynamics that have long helped Mazda6 stand out from its competition. In addition, the powertrain lineup adopts a new cylinder deactivation system for the SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter gasoline engine, when equipped with its SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic transmission, offering greater fuel efficiency.

4. TECHNOLOGY TO MEET HUMAN NEEDS

The 2018 Mazda6 offers new technology features such as a 360⁰ View Monitor, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go function and a new windshield projected Active Driving Display head-up unit that displays critical driver information that helps reduce distractions by keeping eyes on the road. On the dash, a new 8-inch MAZDA CONNECT infotainment system offers more definition and improved graphics.

5. PERFORMANCE-ORIENTED RIDE

Most drivers might never notice the changes made to the SKYACTIV-CHASSIS in the 2018 Mazda6, but they’ll likely feel the improvements. Building on Mazda’s industry-exclusive G-Vectoring Control, the new Mazda6 features a redesigned suspension to help provide a smoother ride and improved dynamic performance. Other improvements include a stiffer platform, a new steering rack designed to help deliver sharper steering response and thicker sheet metal for a refined experience befitting of a far more expensive car. All this reduces interior noise while making the new Mazda6 even more connected and responsive to the driver’s inputs.
